Along with the receipt of Fogra certification, the book and variable-information digital printing company “Drukātava” has completed a large-scale technical modernisation project with its costs reaching EUR 130,000.
SIA “Drukātava” is the only company in the Baltics that has managed to obtain the Fogra validation print creation certificate from Fogra Forschungsgesellschaft Druck e.V. This proves the company is able to make printouts with laser printing technologies of the highest quality in Latvia. The closest company that has reached the same quality of printouts and that has obtained a quality acknowledgement by a competent institution is located in Finland.
The modernisation was launched in the beginning of the year with the purchase of a full colour printer Canon ImagePress C6010VP and employee trainings. “Approximately 70% of the achieved quality depends on the equipment, while the rest is a matter of the skilfulness and attitude of employees – how files are processed prior to sending to print, considering a range of parameters starting with the type of paper and ending with countless nuances, which are sometimes not considered even by the professionals,” said Valdis Jirgens, member of the board of SIA “Drukātava”. According to Mr. Jirgens, the synergy of equipment and manpower guarantees that the first and last printout is in identical colour and technical finishing regardless of the fact, whether these are books or any other items.
“Unfortunately the public misconceives the books digitally printed as books of low quality. Our products do not differ from the conventionally printed books; however, the costs for a single book remain the same regardless of the circulation, as opposed to conventional printing technologies with extremely high costs for the first item and costs gradually decreasing as a result of growing circulation figures. Therefore we are able to print a single book for the same price as that for 100 or 1000 copies thereof; and the fixed price for a unit is important in the overall budgeting, considering the low circulation figures nowadays,” indicated Mr. Jirgens.
